RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku returned to the training pitch for the first time on Tuesday after rupturing a ligament prior to the World Cup. Although only partaking in individual training, according to Kicker, the Frenchman is on schedule to play against Manchester City in the Champions League.
Nkunku had a check-up on his knee earlier in the week before returning to training – when on Tuesday, the France international returned in front of 400 RB Leipzig fans at an open training session.
Over the next two weeks, Nkunku will increase his training loan and will be carefully introduced back into the team. If there are no setbacks, he could be an option against Manchester City on February 22. If all goes well, the Bundesliga game prior against Wolfsburg (Feb 18), may also be possible.
Nkunku has played 23 games across all competitions for RB Leipzig this season, scoring 17 and creating four. Just four points behind leaders Bayern Munich, the Frenchman’s return could be a timely one.
