Atletico Madrid join Liverpool in transfer race for Chelsea midfielder

Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante in the summer transfer window. 

The 31-year-old started the first two Premier League matches this term but has since been sidelined with injury issues. 

Despite his fitness problems this season, Kante is still regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. 

According to Mundo Deportivo, Diego Simeone’s side are keen to sign the France international on a free transfer with his current contract expiring in the summer. 

Los Colchoneros have endured a disappointing 2022-23 campaign so far. They are now facing the prospect of missing out on a top-four spot in La Liga. 

Atletico Madrid could be looking for a major revamp in the summer transfer window. And considering their financial issues, the prospect of signing Kante on a free transfer will likely be very appealing for them. 

However, as per El Nacional, Liverpool are also eyeing a move for the 31-year-old to bolster their midfield. 

The Reds look in desperate need of adding a new midfielder to their ranks. Fabinho is currently out of form at Anfield while Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are on the wrong side of 30. 

Arthur Melo will likely return to Juventus at the end of his loan deal. While Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all out of contract in the summer. 

Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. But without Champions League football for next season, they may not be able to convince the England international to join the Merseyside outfit.
