Konyaspor in talks with free agent Isco after Union Berlin transfer fiasco

Konyaspor are eyeing a shock move for free agent Isco, as confirmed by the Turkish club’s vice president Mehmet Akcan.

The Spaniard was subject to transfer interest from numerous clubs in the January transfer window after he had his contract terminated by Sevilla in December, just a few months after his arrival in the summer.

Bundesliga giants Union Berlin appeared to be the potential destination. They nearly signed the Spaniard on the deadline day before they called off the deal owing to a disagreement in wages.

The transfer market in Turkey is open until next week, and Konyaspor are looking to persuade the former Real Madrid star.

“It is correct, we are in a negotiation process with Isco,” Akcan told Diario AS. “I can tell, the dialogues are going well. We are not yet sure if we reached an agreement, otherwise we would say so openly.”

“We are doing everything possible to close the signing. We have time until the 8th of this month, but I think everything will be resolved with Isco, one way or another, as soon as possible . Now we have an opportunity to close this signing. We are positive.”

Premier League outfit Everton have also reportedly pulled out of the race, considering that Isco lacks the physicality to adapt to the Premier League.

It is safe to say that the Spanish playmaker has reached the lowest ebb of his career. Once regarded as one of the finest players in Europe, the 30-year-old has now become an outcast.

There were several clubs ready to provide him with an escape route during the winter transfer window only if he had lowered his salary demands.
