Matt Doherty, Tottenham’s right-back, is reportedly close to completing a move to Atlético Madrid.
In Spain, Marca report that his arrival is imminent. The Ireland international finishes his contract with Spurs on 30 June 2024, but he could join the La Liga club on loan until 30 June 2023.
Atlético believe that his arrival could be key to provide competition and cover for Nahuel Molina at right-back.
Doherty has played 878 minutes in 16 games for Spurs this season, scoring one goal. In addition, he has started all four of his appearances for Ireland.
Although his natural position is right-back, he can also play further forward as a wing-back. Doherty is represented by agent Jorge Mendes.
The 31-year-old previously played for Bohemians in Ireland. He later joined Wolves and signed for Tottenham in 2020, after Spurs paid €15m for him.
He could now join Atlético in a last-minute move to Spain.
