Tottenham Hotspur target Piero Hincapie ‘could be one’ that ends up moving to Hotspur Way this window, FootballTransfers journalist Jacque Talbot has informed GIVEMESPORT.
Antonio Conte looks like he could be quids in for some more late business in the market, with Arnaut Danjuma already confirmed on loan from Villarreal, alongside Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro being expected to join imminently.
Tottenham Transfer News – Piero Hincapie
Of late, 90Min reported that Tottenham has reached out to Bayer Leverkusen in the final days of the window to enquire about the possibility of signing the 21-year-old.
Spurs boss Conte is believed to be a long-term admirer of Hincapie, who is on the radar of many elite clubs due to his status as one of the most revered young central defenders plying their trade in Europe.
Hincapie is said to be ‘open’ to the possibility of making a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium; nevertheless, Bayer Leverkusen have slapped a monstrous €75 million (£65m million) price tag on his shoulders, which would make any prospective deal an expensive one to carry out.
The north Londoners have also asked about a loan agreement with an option to buy, though are likely to be denied in their quest to acquire the Ecuador international.
What has Jacque Talbot said about Piero Hincapie?
FootballTransfers journalist Talbot has stated that despite the difficulty Spurs may face in doing a deal so close to the end of the window, they definitely hold an ‘interest’ in Hincapie and he’ could be one for them’ to pursue.
Talbot told GMS: “It’s very late in the window and obviously, as the window approaches close, it’s harder to do them deals from abroad, especially far away, but it is quite interesting with Bayer Leverkusen.
“He’s a very progressive centre-back, who can also operate as a left-back. I think it’s been reported in Germany, they’ve got an interest there. He’s very young, still 21-years-old and one of the brightest defenders in the Bundesliga. I’m not sure that Bayer Leverkusen will let him go for a minuscule amount, but that could be one for them.“
How likely is a deal for Piero Hincapie before the deadline?
Despite his promise as a defender, it is most likely that Hincapie will remain at Bayer Leverkusen until the summer unless something crazy was to happen.
Taking into consideration how much he could potentially cost, Tottenham may well steer clear for now before trying to ignite a bid for his services in the summer, where there may be more wiggle room for potential negotiations.
Spurs already have enough depth in central defence for now, with Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Clement Lenglet, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies all being capable of filling in when needed.
Between now and the end of this term, you’d imagine that they will be the available options to compete for a starting place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
