GSBK ‘set to back’ David Moyes at London Stadium

West Ham United manager David Moyes ‘deserves a little bit of investment’ considering his achievements at the club, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

Moyes has excelled since being appointed as the Hammers’ boss back in December 2019 and could be provided with considerable financial resources to kick on even further this summer.

What is the latest news involving West Ham?

When Moyes replaced Manuel Pellegrini in the West Ham dugout, the capital club were sitting in 17th position in the Premier League table, just one place and one point above the relegation zone.

However, since then, the Scottish tactician has transformed the London Stadium outfit’s fortunes, guiding them up the top-flight standings and on a European adventure.

A sixth-placed finish in 2020/21 saw them take part in last term’s Europa League where they reached the semi-finals before securing seventh spot in the Premier League to qualify for continental competition once again.

And Moyes has achieved this success with a relatively low net spend in the transfer market of around £80 million, relying on astute acquisitions such as Craig Dawson, Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal to bolster his ranks.

What has Talbot said about West Ham?

Talbot believes it would ‘be good’ of West Ham’s owners, GSBK, to ‘show a bit of ambition this summer’ and believes the recent contract offer made to Declan Rice shows they will provide sufficient resources.

He told GiveMeSport: “It’d be good for them to show a bit of ambition considering what David Moyes has done for the owners and the club in general; I think he deserves a little bit of investment in the summer.

“And it seems like the way he’s been talking up Rice and the contract they have offered him, it probably shows that they’re going to be putting in a fair bit in the summer, I’d imagine.”

Who could West Ham sign?

A new striker is believed to be at the top of Moyes’ wish list this summer, given Michail Antonio is currently his only option in that position.

According to the Daily Mail, the Irons have entered the race for Chelsea youngster Armando Broja following his impressive loan spell at Southampton where he registered nine goals and one assist in 38 appearances.

It’s unclear whether the Blues would sanction a permanent deal for Broja or only another temporary one, but the 20-year-old could provide the additional firepower West Ham need to continue their upward trajectory.
