Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign Atlético Madrid defender Felipe, reports Fabrizio Romano, and a deal could be finalised in the next few hours.
Forest are offering a salary of more than €2.5m to the Brazilian, who is the only player that the La Liga club were willing to let go in this window as he is not a regular under Diego Simeone and his contract expires in June.
With the departure of Felipe, Leicester City’s Çağlar Söyüncü, who has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Atlético for June, could join immediately, according to Relevo.
That is the intention of Atlético, so as not to leave their defence depleted before the final stretch of the season. However, the salary limit at the Madrid-based club could be an issue.
To make room for Söyüncü, Atlético are looking for an agreement with Valencia for midfielder Saúl, who scored the club’s winner against Osasuna in Pamplona on Sunday.
The parties are getting closer to reaching an agreement but if they fail to close the deal, they will not be able to bring in the Leicester centre-back and will have to wait until the summer.
