RB Leipzig host Stuttgart on Friday evening at the Red Bull Arena, kick-off 20:30 local time.
With Bayern Munich not hosting Eintracht Frankfurt until the following day, it’s an excellent opportunity for RB Leipzig to close the gap to the Rekordmeister to just one point.
After featuring against Bayern Munich in Leipzig’s first game of 2023, Mohamed Simakan could make his return to the matchday squad after missing their midweek win over Schalke with muscular problems, but expect to see Benjamin Henrichs remain in the starting XI.
Marco Rose is still without Péter Gulácsi and so Janis Blaswich will keep his place whilst Kevin Kampl misses the game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season. Christopher Nkunku is still sidelined with a knee injury that ruled him out of the World Cup, meaning we can expect to see Dominik Szoboszlai, Dani Olmo and Timo Werner start behind André Silva again.
As for the visitors, Crystal Palace target Naouirou Ahamada is suspended for Stuttgart, who will also be without Borna Sosa, Silas, Tiago Tomas and Dan-Axel Zagadou. So early into his VfB tenure, Bruno Labbadia is already having to contend with several injuries to key players.
Probable RB Leipzig XI vs Stuttgart
Janis Blaswich – Benjamin Henrichs, Willi Orban, Josko Gvardiol, Marcel Halstenberg – Konrad Laimer, Xaver Schlager – Dominik Szoboszlai, Dani Olmo, Timo Werner – André Silva.
