Leeds United’s potential double swoop for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mateus Tetê could be “season-changing” for the Elland Road outfit, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The Whites have already made two additions to Jesse Marsch’s side this month.

Leeds transfer news – Weston McKennie and Mateus Tetê
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Leeds are pushing to get a deal for McKennie over the line as soon as possible, with the 24-year-old having agreed on personal terms with Marsch’s side several days ago.
Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that the Elland Road outfit are “trying to take command” of the situation regarding the 41-cap United States international, who would be joining fellow compatriot and international teammate Tyler Adams in the middle of the park.
Meanwhile, L’Équipe has reported that Tetê, who is currently on loan at Lyon from Shakhtar, is set to join Leeds and is headed for Yorkshire to finalise a move to the Premier League side, though Romano has also suggested that Leicester City are in advanced talks to sign the winger.
And Jones believes that the signing of the pair could make a positive impact on the rest of the Whites’ season.
What has Jones said about McKennie and Tetê’s potential signings?
Jones told GiveMeSport: “A double capture of Tetê and McKennie would be season-changing and even if those exact deals are not closed out, it gives us a sign of where they are at and what might happen before the deadline.
“Leeds have been short of quality ever since Marsch came in but had a reasonably low wage bill coming into this window and that’s probably helping them push along with transfers of this nature.”
Would McKennie and Tetê be good signings for Leeds?
McKennie and Tetê – who reportedly earn a combined £70,000 per week – would seemingly be positive additions to Marsch’s side as Leeds look to secure survival this season.
The Juventus midfielder has made 21 appearances for the Italian giants this season, hitting the back of the net three times whilst providing two assists, with the American likely to be unfazed by the prospect of a Premier League relegation battle, having played on a relatively regular basis for one of Europe’s biggest sides.
Meanwhile, Tetê has enjoyed a productive loan spell with Lyon, having scored six goals and setting up five assists in 19 appearances during his time in France, suggesting that the Brazilian could add an extra goal threat to Marsch’s side.
Therefore, these could prove to be two excellent additions if Leeds could get both signings over the line before next Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
