Borussia Dortmund began 2023 without their captain yesterday, as Marco Reus sat out with illness.
And much now indicates that ‘Die Schwarzgelben’ will have to manage without the 33-year-old attacker once more when they lock horns with Mainz on Wednesday.
According to local media outlet Ruhr Nachrichten, it’s “relatively unlikely” that Reus will be able to play after missing training again today.
Even if Reus misses out, the battle for the attacking positions is fierce, with Karim Adeyemi, Julian Brandt, Giovanni Reyna, Donyell Malen and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens competing for the three starting places behind the striker.
Dortmund beat Augsburg 4-3 yesterday in their first Bundesliga game of 2023.
