Blackburn Rovers have registered an interest in Fortuna Sittard defender George Cox, according to Football League World.
The English left-back first joined the Eredivisie side in the Summer of 2019 from Brighton & Hove Albion academy on an initial loan deal before making the move permanent the subsequent summer.
Cox has gone on to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Eredivisie club, accumulating over 100 appearances while contributing ten goals and eight assists.
He has started in 15 of his 16 appearances for Julio Velázquez’s side this term while the club struggles to retain top-flight status.
Meanwhile, his performances have caught the eye of England’s Championship side Blackburn who are looking to strengthen their squad in a bid to return to the Premier League.
The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Queens Park Rangers last summer, but a move did not materialise as the Hoops opted to sign Kenneth Paal from PEC Zwolle.
Cox’s contract with the Dutch side expires at the end of the season. He is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with whichever club of his choosing, granted there is an offer on the table.
However, it remains to be seen if Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side will snap him up this month or agree a deal that will see Cox join the club next summer.
Blackburn’s push for promotion to the Premier League hit another snag after playing out a 1-1 draw with Bristol City on Saturday.
They had previously been hammered 4-0 by Rotherham United, meaning they have now won just one of their last five league games.
The Riversiders currently sit in fourth place on the Championship table and need an upturn in performances and results if they are to retain their spot in the playoff places.
Meanwhile, they will first switch their attention to their FA Cup fourth-round clash with fellow Championship side Birmingham City.
