Manchester United are not in advanced negotiations to make any additions to Erik ten Hag’s side at Old Trafford this month but could make a midfield signing if the right opportunity presents itself, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has suggested to GiveMeSport.
The Red Devils have made added two players to the squad in January ahead of the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

Man Utd transfer news – January
It’s been a relatively quiet market at Old Trafford, with United making just two short-term loan signings until the end of the season.
Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland arrived as back-up to first-choice David de Gea at the beginning of January, whilst Wout Weghorst’s temporary switch from Burnley was confirmed last week.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has recently told GiveMeSport that the Red Devils could look to bring in a big-name striker to the club, but any move is unlikely to take place until the summer transfer window.
And whilst Romano has said that the United have no deals at an advanced stage at the time of writing, the Italian journalist hasn’t ruled out any more business taking place this summer, particularly for that of a midfielder.
What has Romano said about Man Utd?
Romano told GiveMeSport: “I would keep it open for opportunities because we never know, maybe in the midfield, something could change. But at the moment there is nothing advanced so to speak. At the moment, Manchester United are not negotiating for any other player.”
What next for Man Utd?
Whilst there is nothing currently in the pipeline in terms of transfer business for United, there are plenty of transfer rumours that could come to fruition for the Red Devils come the end of the month.
According to The Telegraph, United have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, with David de Gea’s future at Old Trafford looking uncertain due to his current £375k-per-week contract having just six months left to run.
Meanwhile, reports in Italy would indicate that the Premier League outfit are intent on adding another right-back to their squad, with Fulham’s Kevin Mbabu and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries both being linked with a move to the Manchester club.
But United’s chances of signing long-term ten Hag target Frenkie de Jong were dealt a blow earlier this month after Joan Laporta told Cadena SER (via Sport) that the midfielder was not for sale, saying: “Frenkie has significant value, several clubs are interested in him, but he is not for sale.”
Therefore, it looks as though it could be a quiet end to the window for ten Hag and his side, but a late twist should not be ruled out just yet.
