Aston Villa ‘in the mix’ to sign £45m ‘top player’ at Villa Park

Aston Villa are “right in the mix” to sign Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma, journalist Pete O’Rourke has told GiveMeSport.

The 25-year-old, who has worked under Villa manager Unai Emery before, is currently looking for a new club.

Aston Villa news – Arnaut Danjuma

The Athletic recently reported that Danjuma was in the UK to speak to clubs about a potential loan move.

In terms of possible destinations, transfer insider Dean Jones informed GMS earlier this month that the Netherlands international is Emery’s “top-choice” for the wide position.

While a temporary switch now looks to be the most likely outcome for Danjuma, clubs do have the option to purchase him permanently in this transfer window.

According to MARCA, the former Bournemouth man possesses a £45m release clause in his current contract.

What has Pete O’Rourke said about Arnaut Danjuma and Aston Villa?

O’Rourke says Villa are one side who are in the race to sign Danjuma this month.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I’m sure they’re right in the mix for Danjuma. He’s been a long-term target since Unai Emery took over at Villa Park.

“He’s a top player who’s really performed well under Emery, and I think we all know Unai Emery is looking to add to Aston Villa’s attacking options in this January transfer window.”

Where could Arnaut Danjuma play for Aston Villa?

Danjuma is able to operate on the left wing and Emery has revealed that he does want to sign a new wide man before the transfer window closes.

“We need a winger, a specialist winger,” the Spaniard said at the start of January (via Sky Sports). “We are trying to find one.”

However, Danjuma can also play up front and has done a pretty good job there. According to Transfermarkt, in over 30 appearances as a centre-forward, he has scored more than 15 goals.

What year did Villa Park become the club’s home?

Considering that, then, the Villarreal star could be another striker option for the Villans if he does end up moving to Villa Park.

All in all, Danjuma could be a great signing for Villa and bringing him to the club makes a lot of sense. They need a winger, Emery already knows the individual and he can play in more than one attacking position.

The fact that Danjuma is available for loan and his release clause does not have to be paid to acquire his services this month also makes him a very appealing option.
