Tottenham ‘held talks’ with £60k-a-week star’s agent at Hotspur Way

Tottenham ‘held talks’ with £60k-a-week star’s agent at Hotspur Way

Tottenham Hotspur have ‘had conversations’ with the agent of Brighton & Hove Albion forward Leandro Trossard, Fabrizio Romano has informed GiveMeSport.

The 28-year-old’s future has been plunged into doubt in recent days after a fallout with Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi, sparking speculation that he could seek pastures new this month.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news – Trossard

Josy Comhair, Trossard’s agent, has claimed that his client was ‘humiliated’ by De Zerbi and that the Italian tactician indicated that a transfer was the ‘most convenient solution’.

However, the Brighton chief has since tried to downplay the incident in an interview with La Repubblica, stating that ‘nothing serious happened’.

“Nothing serious happened with Trossard,” De Zerbi said. “But recently, he didn’t give 100% in training and on matchday, that’s it on my side. Football deserves respect. I don’t have to apologise for anything.”

The Athletic have since revealed that Tottenham made a verbal offer of around £12 million for the creative talent which was rebuffed by Brighton.

And talkSPORT then reported that both Spurs and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Trossard’s signature, who is valued at £25 million by his current employers.

What has Romano said about Trossard?

Tottenham have been struggling to find their best form of late and have now lost ground in the race for a top-four finish.

And Romano has disclosed to GMS that the north London outfit’s chief Fabio Paratici ‘spoke to Brighton’ over Trossard’s availability as well as getting in touch with the player’s representatives.

He said: “In January, for Tottenham, he was a player they discussed. It’s true they had conversations with his agents, they also spoke to Brighton about him.”

Do Tottenham need Trossard?

Despite having the likes of Harry Kane, Richarlison, Son Heung-Min, and Dejan Kulusevski to call upon, Tottenham have looked rather blunt and short of ideas in attack this season.

Manager Antonio Conte has previously bemoaned the fact that Spurs don’t ‘have many creative players’, and Trossard could solve that issue for him.

The Belgium international, who earns £60,000-per-week, has registered seven goals and three assists in 16 Premier League appearances so far this season for Brighton.

If Tottenham manage to add Trossard to their forward options this winter it would surely be a significant boost to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League and be warmly welcomed by Conte.
