Liverpool could pounce for Matheus Nunes as Wolverhampton Wanderers‘ transfer business may ‘open the door’ for a move to Anfield, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.
Having completed the £44million signing of Cody Gakpo before the winter window officially opened at the turn of the year, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could freshen up his squad with further reinforcements ahead of the deadline.

Liverpool transfer news – Matheus Nunes
According to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are keen on signing Nunes ahead of next season and he is on a list of potential targets.
The transfer guru suggests a potential switch to Merseyside was already discussed ahead of his move to Wolves, while the central midfielder is not seen as an alternative option to Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.
It comes after it was reported earlier this month that Liverpool are nearing a deal which would see Nunes head to Anfield in a £44million deal this summer.
The Portugal international only joined Wolves in August, for up to £42.2million, but Klopp’s side had already received scouting reports prior to his Molineux arrival.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently told GiveMeSport that Liverpool are scouring the market for new midfielders.
What has Ryan Taylor said about Nunes?
Taylor believes Wolves’ January business, which has included bringing in midfielder Mario Lemina for £9.7million and Matheus Cunha, may have boosted Fenway Sports Group’s hopes of swooping for Nunes.
The journalist feels the Merseyside giants could look to take advantage and attempt to strike a deal with the West Midlands side.
Taylor told GiveMeSport: “It does kind of provide an indication that someone might be going, whether that’s this month or the summer. We know Ruben Neves is approaching the end of his contract, so I’m guessing it might be pre-planning for his departure.
“But, to me, signing two midfielders does sort of open the door for Liverpool to potentially try their luck with a move for Nunes.”

Would Nunes be a good signing for Liverpool?
Sofascore statistics show Nunes averages 1.8 tackles and 0.9 clearances per Premier League outing this season, while he also boasts 82 per cent pass accuracy.
Those figures emphasise that the Portugal international, who won silverware during his time on Sporting’s books, would provide Liverpool’s backline with additional protection and is comfortable in possession.
Nunes has built up English top flight experience thanks to his move to Wolves, making 16 appearances, and that will be another attraction for Klopp.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola previously described the former Estoril man as ‘one of the best players in the world’, which highlights how highly he is regarded.
With James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita’s respective contracts being due to expire in the summer, while Arthur Melo’s loan from Juventus is set to expire, Nunes could be a shrewd addition to the Liverpool squad.
