As reported by Kicker, Montpellier defender Nicolas Cozza (24) has signed a long-term contract with Wolfsburg, but there’s still some confusion as to when the French defender will join the Bundesliga club.
Cozza is in the final year of his contract with the Ligue 1 club and is therefore allowed to leave on a free transfer in June 2023, but Wolfsburg would have been willing to pay a reported €1m to sign the left-back in January.
Per the report, negotiations between the two clubs are difficult given Montpellier’s precarious position, and so it’s likely that Cozza will remain in southern France until the summer. Romain Pitau’s side are down in 15th, two points above the relegation zone, following their 3-0 defeat against Nantes.
Meanwhile Wolfsburg have somewhat turned their form around under Niko Kovac. Wolfsburg are now just two points behind Borussia Dortmund, who occupy sixth and the UEFA Europa Conference League spot, but face second-placed Freiburg this weekend.
