Arsenal will make bringing in attackers their ‘priority’ this window with the disappointment of losing out on a deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has informed GiveMeSport.
Knowing how much he wanted Mudryk, Mikel Arteta will surely want an addition in the forward areas to bolster his squad in their hunt for the Premier League title.
Arsenal transfer news latest
The Daily Mail had reported that Arsenal were believed to be closing in on a deal to bring Shakhtar Donetsk man Mudryk to London before the shock hijack by Chelsea over the weekend.
La Repubblica has also linked the Gunners with a high-profile move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic in recent times. The 22-year-old would not come cheap, with the Old Lady supposedly valuing the former Fiorentina man at £97.5 million.
Nevertheless, it does show that Arsenal is at least assessing the possibility of acquiring another forward in January.
What has Fabrizio Romano had to say about recent developments?
Transfer guru Romano has stated that Arsenal’s ‘priority is on the attacking positions’, while also believing that the fact key man Gabriel Jesus is injured could tempt the Gunners into the market for a striker.
Romano told GMS: “Now their priority is on the attacking positions. We saw about Mudryk, but of course, they have to cover what happened to Gabriel Jesus.”
Should Arsenal look to sign another striker this window?
Last week, Football London uncovered that Brazilian striker Jesus could be set to spend up to four months on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery, leaving Eddie Nketiah as their only recognised frontman at present.
Since the injury to Jesus, Nketiah has stepped up and excelled for the Gunners when called upon, netting five goals in his last six matches. His clinical finishing has been a major asset in the last few weeks; however, boss Arteta will undoubtedly be anxious over the possibility of the hitman picking up a knock.
Having a look to see if there is anyone else that could fill a spot even temporarily would make sense for the league leaders. Joao Felix was one name mentioned by Sky Sports, though that deal did not come to fruition as rivals Chelsea also eventually swooped in to sign the Portugal ace on a loan agreement.
It will be interesting to see if Arsenal does end up bringing another forward in to contribute between now and the end of the campaign as they aim to end a 19-year wait for Premier League glory.
