Chelsea now have £70m star ‘on the list’ at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have got Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moisés Caicedo “on the list” as a potential target for Graham Potter’s squad at Stamford Bridge, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The Blues are looking to make new additions in the middle of the park, with both Jorginho and N’Golo Kanté in the final six months of their contracts with the west London side.

Chelsea transfer news – Moisés Caicedo

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are now considering approaching Brighton for the services of Caicedo, with Potter’s side struggling in the absence of the injured Kanté.

Seagulls CEO Paul Barber has told CBS reporter Ben Jacobs that the Premier League outfit are yet to receive any bids for the 21-year-old, with both the Blues and Liverpool weighing up a potential move for the starlet.

As per The Sun, any transfer for Caicedo would cost in the region of £60m-£70m, with Brighton under no pressure to sell with the Ecuadorian having two-and-a-half-years left on his contract at the Amex.

Romano has recently told GiveMeSport that Chelsea “really appreciate” the midfielder and could look to form a reunion with Potter after the pair work together during the head coach’s time at Brighton.

But the Italian journalist has also suggested that any deal will be tough to negotiate with the seaside club, especially in January.

What has Romano said about Chelsea and Caicedo?

Romano told GiveMeSport: “We know how tough it is to negotiate with Brighton in general, especially in January with a new coach like De Zerbi who wants to keep all the players. It’s not an easy one, but it’s true that he’s one of the players on the list for Chelsea.”

Would Caicedo be a good signing for Chelsea?

Caicedo – who has been described as a “leader” of his national team by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig – has been in fine form for Brighton this season and has no doubt attracted the attention of some of the league’s top clubs.

Before Saturday’s clash with Liverpool, the 28-cap Ecuador international had made 20 appearances for the Seagulls this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist, as per Transfermarkt.

It is the defensive side of his game which makes the South American stand out in comparison to the rest, with Sofascore suggesting that he has made an average of 2.9 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game in the Premier League this campaign, an exceptional tally for the youngster.

Therefore, as a long-term replacement for an energetic midfielder like Kanté, Potter may just have found the perfect solution in one of his former colleagues.
