Chelsea “really appreciate” Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moisés Caicedo with the starlet potentially being the “perfect solution” for Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.
The Blues will be looking at new additions in the middle of the park, with both Jorginho and N’Golo Kanté having entered the final six months of their contracts with the west London side.
Chelsea transfer news – Moisés Caicedo
According to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, there is a “real possibility” that Caicedo could sign for Chelsea this month after Brighton’s CEO Paul Barber told the journalist that he doesn’t want to see any high-profile departures in January but understands if “opportunities arise.”
However, the same journalist has added that the South American midfielder doesn’t link up with his new agency until 18th January, so any move would likely happen towards the end of the window.
In more good news for Chelsea, Dean Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that no direct conversations are happening between Liverpool and Caicedo, with the Reds also thought to be interested in a move for the £85m rated talent.
And Romano believes that a reunion between Potter and Caicedo could be the “perfect solution” for the Blues head coach.
What has Romano said about Caicedo and Chelsea?
Romano told GiveMeSport: “Moisés Caicedo is a player they really appreciate. He’s a player that Chelsea have on their list. He could be the perfect solution for Graham Potter because he knows the player.”
Would Caicedo be a good signing for Chelsea?
Caicedo – who has been dubbed the “crown jewel” of Ecuadorian football by Enrico Castro-Montes (via Sport Witness) – has been a gem of a signing for Brighton since his £4.5m arrival at the Amex in 2021.
The 21-year-old has made 16 Premier League appearances this campaign, hitting the back of the net once and providing a solitary assist as per Transfermarkt, helping the Seagulls to sit in eighth in the Premier League.
An average Sofascore rating of 7.11 for his displays in the top flight this season has ranked the 28-cap Ecuador international as Brighton’s fourth-best-performing player after having made an impressive 2.9 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game, as per the same stats provider.
Therefore, if Chelsea are looking to replace the experienced figures of Jorginho and Kanté with some younger blood in January, then they may just have identified the perfect option in Caicedo, with the midfielder’s adjustment to Premier League football suggesting he is capable of transitioning to an elite club in the future.
