Kicker report today that new Augsburg head coach Enrico Maaßen had offers from Manchester United, Lokomotiv Moscow and FC Basel.
The 38-year-old would have worked as one of Ralf Rangnick’s assistants at the Premier League club but after two years as Borussia Dortmund II head coach, has joined Bundesliga side Augsburg.
Maaßen has signed a multi-year agreement with the Bundesliga side, replacing Markus Weinzeirl as head coach.
I’m happy to have the chance to prove myself and to be able to build something sustainable together in Augsburg as a team. I would also like to thank the people in charge of Borussia Dortmund for making the move possible,” said Maaßen.
Even though Maaßen had a contract with BVB II until 2024, the German tactician wanted to make the leap into first team management following a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund.
