Atlético Madrid are showing an interest in Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos, according to Bild. The Bundesliga side want to sign Josuha Guilavogui in January, but would need to raise funds to sign the Frenchman. Because of that, it’s possible that Mavropanos will leave the club.
Per the report, Mavropanos will not be able to leave for anything below €15m, with his current deal at VfB expiring in 2025. Atlético deposited their interest in the Greek central-defender to ex-sporting director Sven Mislintat, and are now showing further interest in Mavropanos.
Despite this, negotiations are yet to become concrete. Atlético themselves have a budget after spending almost €20m more than they brought in during the summer window. Mavropanos has won over 82 percent of his duels in the Bundesliga this season and is regarded as one of the league’s best defenders outside of the top six teams. West Ham United were also interested in the Greece international during the summer, and were ready to pay around €25m.
Mavropanos spent two years on loan at Stuttgart before making his move from Arsenal permanent for little over €3m. Since 2020, the 25-year-old has played 69 games for VfB.
