Chelsea ‘definitely’ have Celtic defender Josip Juranovic on their ‘radar’ ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window, journalist Simon Phillips has informed GiveMeSport.

The Blues are believed to be in the market for a new right wing-back as manager Graham Potter looks to add some cover and competition in that area for Reece James.

Chelsea transfer news – Josip Juranovic

Fabrizio Romano has stated that Juranovic is ‘on the radar’ of ‘many clubs’ thanks to his impressive showings at the World Cup and that Celtic are ‘open to discussions’.

A recent report from the Daily Record has claimed that Serie A side Torino have made the first move for the Croatia international and that the Hoops are set to demand £17 million for his services.

Back in August, the Daily Mail revealed that Manchester United, Chelsea and Atletico Madrid were all eager to prise Juranovic away from Parkhead, although a formal offer failed to materialise.

The 27-year-old has only enhanced his reputation since then following a string of eye-catching displays at the showpiece event in Qatar.

West Ham United are also said to be in the running for Juranovic’s signature, and he looks set to be one of the most in-demand players next month.

What has Phillips said about Juranovic?

Phillips has told GMS that Chelsea are ‘still considering’ making a move for the attack-minded full-back after previously entering negotiations with Celtic in the summer.

He said: “The right-back that I know Chelsea are still considering looking at is Juranovic from Croatia, the Celtic full-back. He’s definitely on Chelsea’s radar; he has been since the summer.

“Chelsea had an inquiry from Celtic at the time about Ross Barkley, and they were considering doing some kind of deal there with Juranovic going in the opposite direction.”

Would Juranovic be a good signing?

Juranovic only arrived at Celtic in August 2021 after completing a £2.5m deal from Legia Warsaw and made an instant impact, registering five goals and two assists in 35 appearances last term.

The technically gifted star played a pivotal part in Ange Postecoglou’s charges regaining the Scottish Premiership title as well as the League Cup crown.

And Juranovic has carried that form into the current campaign, averaging 0.4 blocks per league game, the third-highest tally amongst his teammates, and 1.6 key passes, the joint-fourth highest total, as per WhoScored.

As a result, John Hartson has previously labelled Juranovic “outstanding”, and he could be a valuable asset for Chelsea under Potter.
