£60m star ‘now looking to stay’ at St James’ Park

PIF ‘absolutely’ could push the boat out at St James’ Park – GiveMeSport

Newcastle United could ‘absolutely’ push the boat out with their January signings if Financial Fair Play regulations allow them to, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

The Magpies are currently sitting in third position in the Premier League standings and may use the winter transfer window as an opportunity to strengthen their push for Champions League football.

Newcastle United transfer news – January

Newcastle became the richest football club in the world when they were bought by a Saudi-backed consortium last year, and they’ve spent significant sums since.

The likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak have all arrived in big-money deals, while manager Eddie Howe has improved the players who were already at his disposal.

A combination of wise investment and good management has seen Newcastle rise dramatically from relegation contenders to top-four hopefuls in around 12 months.

And January may be viewed as the ideal time for the north east outfit to take the next step in their development by bringing in another astute acquisition to help Howe’s cause.

What has Taylor said about Newcastle?

Newcastle are four points clear of fifth-placed Manchester United at present, albeit having played a game more than their domestic rivals.

And when asked by GiveMeSport if Taylor believes the St James’ Park side will look to reinforce their squad next month, he revealed that he doesn’t ‘see why not’.

He said: “Yeah, absolutely, I don’t see why not. I don’t know quite what their Financial Fair Play situation is because last year, obviously they spent heavily in January, they kind of had to balance the books a little bit.”

Who could Newcastle sign?

Back in August, The Guardian revealed that Newcastle had a £50 million offer rebuffed by Leicester City for James Maddison as it did not match their £60m valuation of the attacking midfielder.

Maddison has remained a player of interest on Tyneside ever since, but Luke Edwards of The Telegraph has claimed that a deal at the mid-way point of the season is ‘highly unlikely’.

Premier League and Newcastle United all-time top goalscorer Alan Shearer is a true legend of the game, but when did he leave their club?

Meanwhile, Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is another long-term target of Newcastle’s, and speculation over his immediate future is once again beginning to mount following a strong World Cup showing.

The Daily Mail have disclosed that the Blues are only willing to sanction the USA international’s exit on a permanent basis, though, meaning Newcastle would have to be willing to splash the cash.
