Luka Modrić spoke after Croatia were knocked out of the World Cup by Argentina on Tuesday night and wished Lionel Messi luck in the 2022 World Cup final.
“Congratulations and best of luck to Messi in the final. He’s having an incredible tournament and is showing his quality and greatness,” the Real Madrid midfielder said.
“We were doing well, controlling the match then the referee gave the penalty, that changed everything. I can’t believe he gave that penalty,” he added.
Modrić was then asked if it was his last game. He said: “My last game for Croatia? Now is not the time to talk about it.”
Argentina advance
Messi and Argentina will play the winner of France-Morocco in Sunday’s final in Qatar.
In the 3-0 semi-final victory, Messi picked up the Man of the Match award after he scored and assisted to help send his country through to the final.
The PSG forward has already played in a World Cup final, when La Albiceleste were defeated by Germany in the 2014 final.
He will be hoping to put things right this weekend.
