Bayern Munich open talks with Dominik Livakovic

Bayern Munich have kicked off talks with the entourage of Dominik Livakovic, according to Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg.

Per the report, Bayern want to replace Manuel Neuer with Livakovic and initial contact has now taken place between Der FCB and the 27-year-old.

Neuer recently picked up a season-ending injury shortly after the end of Germany’s disappointing World Cup campaign which ended in an early exit.

With the current Bayern number one now approaching the inevitable twilight of his illustrious career, it is no surprise that the Bundesliga champions are working towards securing a long-term replacement.

Julian Nagelsmann’s men are believed to be keen on recalling Alexander Nubel with the 26-year-old having spent the last two seasons at Monaco.

However, it is unlikely that Nubel would be handed a starting spot at the Allianz Arena, hence Bayern’s interest in Livakovic.

The Croatian shot-stopper has caught the eye at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar where his performances have helped Zlatko Dalic’s men reach the semi-final stage.

Livakovic made 11 saves during the 120 minutes of his country’s last-eight meeting against Brazil, before going on to deny Rodrygo when the tie went to penalties.

With his deal at Dinamo Zagreb expiring in 2024, this summer could represent the best chance for Livakovic’s current employers to command a sizeable transfer fee, especially with Bayern now in the hunt to sign him.

Premier League outfit Leeds United have also been credited with an interest amid the uncertainty around the future of Illan Meslier at Elland Road.

Livakovic will have plenty of time to decide on his next move after the conclusion of the World Cup but in the meantime, he is focused on tomorrow’s meeting against Argentina as Croatia seek to become only the fourth team to play in consecutive finals of football’s biggest tournament.
