£149k-a-week Conte target makes ‘interesting admission’

Tottenham Hotspur have been tempted to sign Adrien Rabiot in the past and, amid renewed interest from Hotspur Way, the Juventus star ‘could be a good fit in the right club’, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte will work with managing director Fabio Paratici in a bid to welcome reinforcements to north London during the January window.

Tottenham transfer news – Adrien Rabiot

According to Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Paratici is a firm admirer of Rabiot and keen to lure the central midfielder to Tottenham.

However, the report suggests London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are also looking to pounce amid uncertainty over the Frenchman’s long-term future, while Newcastle United are preparing a lucrative proposal.

Rabiot is set to enter the final six months of his £149,000-per-week Juventus deal at the turn of the year and will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club.

Tottenham are long-term suitors, having also looked to strike a deal earlier this year, while the 27-year-old saw a summer move to Manchester United fall through.

With the expiry of his Juventus contract nearing, Rabiot has admitted that he has set his sights on eventually heading to the Premier League.

What has Dean Jones said about Rabiot?

Jones understands that Tottenham have previously considered tempting Rabiot to north London and, as a result, the Juventus man’s dream of moving to England is intriguing.

The journalist feels the France international could be a shrewd signing for the right club after also coming close to joining Manchester United.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s interesting that Rabiot has admitted he is open to the Premier League because clubs like Spurs have had a look at him in the past.

“Manchester United did too and while I still think it was the right choice not to sign him, he could be a good fit in the right club.”

How has Rabiot performed at the World Cup?

Rabiot started the World Cup with a bang as he got his name on the scoresheet and grabbed an assist during France’s group stage-opening win over Australia, leading to him being handed an 8.5 match rating by Sofascore.

He has made Didier Deschamps’ side difficult to break down as data shows, ahead of the quarter-final clash with England, he had averaged 2.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 0.8 clearances per outing in Qatar.

With figures like that, it comes as little surprise that Rabiot has become a key part of Les Bleus’ starting line-up and been restricted to a place on the bench just once since the tournament got underway last month.

The Juventus man headed to the World Cup high on confidence after registering seven goal contributions in 16 club level appearances this season, but he has certainly built on that form on the sport’s biggest stage.
