Everton fans would be ‘open’ to Roberto Martinez making a return to the Goodison Park dugout if Frank Lampard is sacked, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The Toffees went into the break from domestic action sitting just one point clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Everton manager news – Roberto Martinez
According to Belgian media outlet Het Nieuwsblad, Martinez is on Everton’s shortlist as a potential successor to Lampard.
The report suggests the 49-year-old, who walked away from the Belgium job after they failed to make it through to the knockout stages of the World Cup, is on the radar of numerous Premier League outfits.
Although Martinez is now pursuing a return to club management, he is thought to be among the contenders for the Mexico job.
Everton wanted to appoint the Spaniard as Rafa Benitez’s replacement ahead of turning to Lampard in January, but the Royal Belgian Football Association turned down the approach.
Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Martinez will also be an option for West Ham United if they opt to part ways with current boss David Moyes.

What has Dean Jones said about Martinez?
Jones believes Martinez will be seen as a viable alternative to Lampard if the Everton hierarchy decide to make a change at the helm.
The journalist feels Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri could turn to the out-of-work manager, who registered 62 wins during his initial spell in charge at Goodison Park, if results do not improve in the coming weeks.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously, with Martinez now being available, it’s something that’s going to be talked about.
“I think there are Everton fans that would now be open to a return and maybe it’s a path they’ll have to consider if things go badly in January.”
Should Everton sack Lampard?
Lampard spent more than £65million during the summer, according to Transfermarkt, but the financial backing has not resulted in an improvement of results.
In fact, since he was appointed as Everton’s manager in January, the Merseyside outfit have registered just 12 wins and, worryingly, 19 defeats.
Sections of the fanbase have also started to show discontent and signs of frustration, with MailOnline reporting supporters confronted Lampard and his players after a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth last month.
However, it appears that Lampard’s job is safe for now as Jones has previously told GIVEMESPORT that the Everton hierarchy are continuing to back the current boss.
