Max Eberl has officially started his role as RB Leipzig sporting director and high on his agenda is extending the contract of 24-year-old Spanish international midfielder Dani Olmo.
“We will continue the talks,” said Eberl at his first press conference. “Of course, such topics are high on my agenda.” Olmo has 1.5 years remaining on his current deal, which expires in June 2024.
Olmo started the season well with assists in successive Bundesliga games but has missed 11 games across all competitions for RB Leipzig this season due to a knee injury. The Spaniard has since worked his way back in to Marco Rose’s squad as he looks to regain his form.
Olmo played 270 minutes for Spain in Group E at the World Cup, scoring and assisting against Costa Rica, and also started in their Round of 16 game against Morocco, who eliminated them on penalties.
Since his €29m move from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2020, Olmo has played 106 games across all competitions for RB Leipzig, scoring 19 and creating 22.
