Liverpool closing in on Calvin Ramsay signing

Liverpool are close to finalising the signing of 18-year-old right-back Calvin Ramsay, according to the Guardian.

Ramsay currently plays his football in the Scottish Premiership with Aberdeen. He spent nine years in the academy before earning his first professional contract in 2021. He made his debut later that year.

After breaking into the first team towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign, he became a regular starter in the following year. The young Scotsman made 33 appearances last season in all competitions, scoring once and assisting a further four goals.

Now, he looks set to take the next step in his career. The Guardian reports that Liverpool are close to completing the signing of the teenager.

The Reds are looking for someone to offer back-up and competition for first choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. Manager Jurgen Klopp had some issues in this department last season, often having to use centre-back Joe Gomez as a full-back.

They have Neco Williams returning from his successful loan spell at Fulham. However, he could be sold this summer, with the club reportedly putting a £15 million price tag on his head. Meanwhile, youngster Conor Bradley has also impressed in the youth teams, but is likely to be sent out on loan.

Elsewhere at Anfield, the FA Cup winners are also reportedly eyeing up deals for Darwin Nunez and Jude Bellingham.

With Sadio Mane seemingly adamant on leaving, a new forward could be needed at Liverpool. Nunez is a known target, having hit a prolific 34 goals in 41 appearances this season with Benfica. However, they will have plenty of competition for his signature, with the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid also linked.

As for Bellingham, he is reportedly being lined up as the Reds aim to strengthen their central midfield area. Fabinho and Thiago have had fitness issues, while their other options arguably aren’t good enough to be regular starters.

France international Aurelien Tchouameni was also apparently on the radar, but he is looking unlikely. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that he is on the verge of completing a move to Real Madrid.
