Manchester United ‘remain very interested’ in Cody Gakpo and Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of the PSV Eindhoven star is a ‘very promising sign’ at Old Trafford, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Ten Hag, who moved into the Red Devils’ hot seat over the summer, will be handed an opportunity to bolster his squad during the fast-approaching January window.

Man United transfer news – Cody Gakpo
According to The Sun, Manchester United are preparing to swoop for Gakpo when the transfer window reopens in January.
The report suggests PSV are willing to cash in on the Netherlands international, who is keen on a switch to Old Trafford, during the early stages of 2023.
But Manchester United will have to splash the cash in order to get their man as the Mirror have revealed Gakpo’s price tag has doubled to £50million thanks to his impressive performances at the World Cup.
The winger scored in the Netherlands’ group stage clashes with Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar, as per Transfermarkt.
Manchester United are in the market for a new attacking option after it was confirmed last month that Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract has been terminated by mutual agreement.

What has Dean Jones said about Gakpo?
Jones understands that Manchester United are still in the hunt for Gakpo after becoming long-term admirers.
The journalist feels the Red Devils’ interest should give supporters confidence when it comes to who ten Hag targets in the transfer market.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “United do remain very interested in him. I think the fact that ten Hag identified him so early is at least a very promising sign of how good he is at talent-spotting.
“It should give United fans faith in what type of player he’s going to bring into the club.”
Are Man United facing competition for Gakpo’s signature?
According to The Sun, Everton, Southampton and West Ham United have joined Manchester United in wanting to lure Gakpo to the Premier League.
Leeds United have also been admirers of the 23-year-old and The Athletic reported the Yorkshire side, along with Southampton, failed to strike a deal during the final hours of the summer transfer window.
However, Manchester United appear to be at the front of the queue for Gakpo’s services as respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has suggested that the Red Devils have been holding discussions with the Dutchman’s representatives.
The PSV talisman has also revealed – via 90min – that he spent the majority of the summer believing he would head to Old Trafford after the club registered an interest, but a move failed to materialise.
Despite that, Gakpo’s departure from PSV is not a foregone conclusion as his contract, which is worth £19,000-per-week according to Salary Sport, still has more than three-and-a-half years to run.
