Everton selling goalkeeper Jordan Pickford would ‘leave a huge gaping hole’ in their side, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The England international is currently starring at the World Cup amid growing speculation over his long-term future as he is set to enter the final 18 months of his £110,000-per-week contract.
Everton news – Jordan Pickford
Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that Chelsea are ‘monitoring’ Pickford alongside other keepers as they still need to ‘make a decision’ over their current options in goal.
“Jordan Pickford is one of the goalkeepers Chelsea are monitoring at the moment, not the only one but nothing is advanced or concrete yet,” Romano said.
“For sure, they need to make a decision on Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga. I think they’re both very good goalkeepers, but they need full confidence otherwise it makes no sense to continue.”

The Telegraph have also reported that Manchester United are ‘monitoring’ the 6 foot 1 ace’s situation as they contemplate replacing David de Gea between the sticks.
Pickford, who cost Everton £30 million, has been in impressive form for both club and country over the last couple of years, and Everton may be forced into sanctioning his sale if he doesn’t put pen to paper on fresh terms.
What has Brown said about Pickford?
Everton are experiencing financial problems off the pitch and offloaded Richarlison in a £60 million deal to Tottenham Hotspur over the summer.

Yet Johnson believes that Pickford’s exit would leave the Goodison Park outfit short, and that Frank Lampard would need a ‘very high calibre’ replacement.
He said: “Selling Pickford will obviously leave a huge gaping hole where they don’t need one because they’re clearly looking for people in other areas, and they need to replace him with someone of a very high calibre.”
How is Pickford playing at the World Cup?
Pickford has kept two clean sheets in his three games for England at the World Cup, keeping the Welsh and USA at bay to help the Three Lions progress from Group B.
Only Iran have found their way past the shot-stopper so far at the showpiece event in Qatar, taking his tally to 23 clean sheets in his 48 caps.
England are set to take on Senegal in the last 16 of the World Cup on Sunday, and Pickford will once again be hoping to keep the opposition at bay.
Losing Pickford, who has been described as “outstanding”, would be a bitter blow for Everton and Lampard, but a big-money offer from Chelsea or United may be too good to turn down given his contract situation.
