Man Utd have ‘strong chance’ of signing ‘high-profile’ striker at Old Trafford – GiveMeSport

Manchester United are likely to bring a high-profile forward to Old Trafford next summer, according to transfer reporter Dean Jones.

Erik ten Hag adding Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or AC Milan’s Rafael Leao to the Red Devils’ squad will be an expensive operation, though, says Jones.

Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg recently claimed that Osimhen is one of United’s top targets.

However, Plettenberg has also stated that the Red Devils are reluctant to pay a crazy fee like €100m for the Nigerian.

Leao is another player from Serie A who United are thought to be interested in. As per ESPN, the Manchester club have the 23-year-old on their shortlist as Ten Hag looks to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Leao’s Portugal team-mate recently had his contract at Old Trafford terminated following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

What has Dean Jones said about Man United’s summer transfer plans?

Jones can see United going after a big-name forward next summer but expects deals for Osimhen and Leao to be extremely expensive.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “I think that there’s a strong chance that they do sign a high-profile name in the summer. Osimhen and Leao are going to cost a vast amount of money.

“The only thing I’d say is that whenever United have spent huge money, it’s tended to drag out a bit. That would be my one concern.”

Osimhen has been deadly this season. As per Transfermarkt, he has scored nine goals in 11 league appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

It has helped to take Napoli to the top of the Serie A table and above Leao’s Milan, who are currently eight points below them.

It follows a top-flight campaign where Osimhen managed to register 14 times in 27 outings, so if United are searching for a new striker, he is not a bad player to look at.

Leao is also having a bright season, so it is no surprise that United have him on their radar as well.

Also per Transfermarkt, the former Lille man has scored six goals and provided another five assists in 14 games to help keep his side in the hunt for the title.

As well as his productivity in the box, what also makes Leao a very attractive proposition is the fact that he can play up front and out wide. Ultimately, if United can get their hands on him or Osimhen, Ten Hag will probably be a pleased man.
