The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (Real Federación Española de Fútbol) gave an interview to Qatari channel Al-Kass, which also appeared on AS.
Rubiales was asked whether Luis Enrique will continue to be Spain’s coach after the World Cup:
“Luis Enrique is a top-level coach, who agreed to take on the job and turned down financially more attractive offers from English clubs. We will talk to him after the World Cup to evaluate the work that is being done and he will have the freedom to leave if he wants to.”
“I am very grateful to him. He renewed the blood of the national team with players under the age of 20, and he brought everyone back together behind the Spanish national team. But my words don’t mean that he will leave at the end of the World Cup,” he added.
The federation’s president also discussed Spain’s upcoming fixture against Morocco in the round of last 16:
“Morocco is a very European team, a physically strong team, and we know a large number of their players, who play or have played in Spain.”
