Chelsea have been scouting Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong, claims journalist Simon Phillips.
The Dutch youngster has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, and Phillips says the Blues have been watching him for a few seasons now.
Chelsea transfer news – Jeremie Frimpong
At the end of October, FootballTransfers claimed that Chelsea were interested in Frimpong.
The west London club, however, could face competition for his signature, with the same outlet reporting that rivals Manchester United are also keen on the player.
When it comes to the right-back position, Chelsea manager Graham Potter currently has Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta at his disposal.
The former, though, has been out with a knee injury, while the latter is not getting any younger. When you consider that, it is not a surprise to hear that the Blues are interested in a player like Frimpong.

What has Simon Phillips said about Jeremie Frimpong and Chelsea?
Phillips has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea have scouted Frimpong in recent years and are still doing so now under new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “I think it’s a position that Chelsea will address in the summer rather than January, but they are starting to look at targets. Jeremie Frimpong is on there.
“Chelsea have scouted him a few times in recent seasons and they’ve stepped that up again now under the new ownership.”

What would Frimpong bring to Chelsea?
Frimpong is the sort of full-back who loves to attack and can cause havoc in the opponent’s half.
As per Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old has scored five goals in 15 league appearances for Leverkusen this season, which is pretty impressive for a player of his position.
He has also ranked in the 99th percentile for dribbles completed and the 96th for touches in the attacking penalty area (via FBref) among full-backs over the last year, further showing the threat that he carries.
It is easy to see why Transfermarkt’s Stefan Bienkowski once described Frimpong, who is valued at around £30m by the CIES Football Observatory, as an “exciting talent”.
If Chelsea do want to sign a new right-back in January or next summer, which looks necessary, then Frimpong is a player who is definitely worth considering.
From the above, it is clear to see that he brings a lot to the table. And at just 21 years of age, time is obviously on his side. He can become even better in the future.
