Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has a ‘big decision’ to make over whether to lure Lille star Jonathan David to Old Trafford in January, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.
Having been appointed as the Red Devils’ boss during the summer, ten Hag will be presented with another opportunity to bolster his squad during the winter window.

Manchester United transfer news – Jonathan David
Respected German journalist Florian Plettenberg has revealed that Manchester United have scouted David several times and Lille could be open to sanctioning his exit midway through the season if a £43million bid is lodged.
But, writing in his CaughtOffside column, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has insisted the Red Devils have not opened negotiations over the striker.
Manchester United, who have gone into the break from domestic football sitting fifth in the Premier League, are not the only side to have been keeping tabs on David.
That is because Plettenberg understands that Everton have been interested in negotiating a deal which would see the 22-year-old head to Goodison Park in 2023.
Manchester United could be on the hunt for a new forward option after the club announced last week that they have terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract by mutual agreement following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

What has Dean Jones said about David?
Jones understands that Manchester United are still mulling over whether to test Lille’s resolve as they are not currently confident that David would be the ideal replacement for Ronaldo.
The journalist believes ten Hag is facing a key call and the break in the season could play to the Dutchman’s advantage as he assesses his options.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “We’ll have to wait to see whether they are convinced enough in terms of Jonathan David to actually turn their interest into a pursuit because there is a big difference there in terms of where we’re currently at and where we might get to.
“This is the big decision for United. At least they’ve got this gap now of a few weeks to decide exactly how they want to move forward.”
Would David be a good signing for Manchester United?
David has featured at the World Cup for Canada, but his efforts have not been enough as they cannot progress past the group stage.
Despite that, there is no doubt that he knows where the back of the net is as he has scored 22 goals in 37 international appearances, according to Transfermarkt.
David has also excelled at club level this season, with Sofascore statistics showing he has got his name on the scoresheet every 148 minutes in Ligue 1.
As per FBref, the Lille man has averaged more goals, assists and shots on target than the departed Ronaldo, so he could prove to be the perfect replacement for the 37-year-old.
