According to Kicker, Schalke 04 are seeking to bring in two wingers in the January transfer window. As per the report, the Royal Blues have a budget of around €5m-€6m to spend on new incomings.
Originally, many believed that the club would focus on the central defender position. Out of the six long-term injuries the team has, four of them play in central defence. However, S04 now believe that many of these players will be back sooner than expected. This includes Sepp van den Berg (20) who suffered an ankle injury against Augsburg on October 2nd.
Currently bottom of the Bundesliga, Schalke will need a much improved second half of the season if they’re to avoid going straight back down to the second division. Also on S04’s mind is the search for a new sporting director. However, CEO Peter Knäbel announced that players will take priority this winter with a sporting director expected to be named in spring. The CEO said: “The search for players and the staking out of the financial framework is preferable at the moment.”
