Neuer levels Taffarel and Maier as the goalkeeper with most World Cup appearances

Manuel Neuer has tied Sepp Maier and Claudio Taffarel for the most World Cup appearances as a goalkeeper.

Germany captain Manuel Neuer has equalled a record set by Sepp Maier and Claudio Taffarel after appearing against Spain yesterday.
Neuer played his 18th World Cup game last night, meaning he has tied Maier and Taffarel for most World Cup appearances as a goalkeeper.

Unless something drastic happens, Neuer will set a new record on Thursday, when Germany face Costa Rica in their last group stage game of the World Cup in Qatar.

The Bayern veteran made his debut for Germany in 116 and has gone on to represent his country a total of 116 times.
