Neuer pleased with defensive display

Manuel Neuer felt Germany made it difficult to score against them against Spain tonight.

Germany captain Manuel Neuer was pleased with his team’s defensive performance in tonight’s 1-1 draw against Spain.
“It was difficult against an energetic Spain side. But we took the fight to them and didn’t allow much. The whole team gave everything to ensure that we were compact, so it was difficult to score against us. Unfortunately, we still conceded,” Neuer said in a post-match interview.

“But then ‘Fülle’ equalised, and the most important thing is that we’re still alive in the tournament.”

Neuer and Germany now need to beat Costa Rica on Thursday to maintain a chance of advancing to the knockout stages.
