West Ham United are exploring their options for defensive recruits and could look to sign Jakub Kiwior, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Hammers may look for reinforcements in January and the Polish star is one they are considering making a move for.

Is Kiwior an option for the Hammers?

Kiwior is currently representing Poland at the World Cup in Qatar, and played in the centre of their defence during a goalless draw with Mexico in their opening group stage clash.

The 22-year-old is currently on the books of Italian side Spezia but has been linked with a move away from the club after a string of impressive performances during the first half of the campaign.

It is understood that Spezia have placed a £25million price tag on Kiwior’s head after he has gained interest from a host of clubs.

West Ham, Atletico Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, Villarreal, Juventus and Roma are reportedly keen on Kiwior, making a man in-demand.

What has Dean Jones said about a West Ham move for Kiwior?

Jones is aware that West Ham are looking to add to their defensive options during the fast-approaching winter window, which opens for business in January.

The transfer insider believes the east Londoners see Kiwior as a potential option as they continue to scour the market.

When asked about West Ham’s potential interest in Kiwior, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “It is a position we know that they’re looking to strengthen, so suitable options are being explored at the moment. He is one of the names to look out for.”

Why do West Ham need to strengthen their backline?

The centre of defence is an area that West Ham are looking to bolster, especially after the news that Kurt Zouma will be out for a considerable length of time following knee surgery.

Summer signing Nayef Aguerd is yet to make his first Premier League start for the club after undergoing ankle surgery in July, but he has been included in Morocco’s World Cup squad and it would be a huge boost to see him return after the tournament.

David Moyes’ other options at centre-back include Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna, but both look to be short-term options to play alongside Thilo Kehrer.

As well as Kiwior, West Ham have also been linked with Udinese’s Rodrigo Becao, emphasising it’s a position that they have earmarked for strengthening.
