Tottenham Hotspur owner Daniel Levy would love to bring back Sporting Lisbon’s Marcus Edwards to the club, believes journalist Paul Brown.
When did Marcus Edwards leave Tottenham?
Marcus joined the academy system at Spurs at eight years old, and went on to make his debut for the club under Mauricio Pochettino in September, during an EFL Cup match with Gillingham in 2016.
However, that appearance would go on to be the only time Edwards would make the Spurs first team. He’d enjoy loan spells with Norwich in the Championship and then Eredivisie side Excelsior before joining Vitoria de Guimaraes on a permanent deal in 2020.
After a season and a half with the Portuguese club, Edwards joined Sporting in the Primeira Liga and is now considered to be one of the most talented young players in the league.
What does Brown say about Edwards returning to Tottenham?
Edwards’ performances have alerted Premier League clubs and Paul Brown believes Daniel Levy would love to have him back at Tottenham.
Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “Marcus Edwards is an interesting one. Obviously at Spurs before, I think the link there has Levy’s fingerprints all over it. [It was] Something that he probably didn’t really want to do when they let the guy go and he’d love to have him back and fulfilling his potential at the club.”
Is Edwards headed for a Tottenham reunion in 2023?
Tottenham were reacquainted with Edwards during their Champions League Group Stage this season, scoring against them in the 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Following his displays the winger has been linked with a move back to North London by Portuguese outlet Record, and he hasn’t ruled out a move back to the Premier League.
Speaking to the Evening Standard last month the 23-year-old said: “Everyone has a different journey. For me it worked out, going over there and it clicked straight away. It has been good for me, but I would love to play in England [again] and be near my family.”
Spurs did insert a 50% sell-on fee when they sold the player, so could now re-sign the player without spending a vast fortune on a player, who has a £52million release clause.
Edwards has played 19 times for Sporting this season, scoring seven goals for the Portuguese club.
