VfB Stuttgart CEO Alexander Wehrle has confirmed that the decision on whether Sven Mislintat will sign a new contract and who will be in charge of the team in the new year will be made in the coming days.
Speaking to Sky Germany after Stuttgart lost 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen, Wehrle said: “We have jointly agreed that after the 15th match day and the trip to the USA to make a decision. In the end, we want to achieve a result. Now it is time for that final trial, then we will make the best decision for VfB.”
During his interview, the CEO also praised Michael Wimmer who has been in charge of Stuttgart after they sacked Pellegrino Matarazzo. On Wimmer, Wehrle said: “He has won all the homes games, that is a clear sign. Today it was difficult, we had three failures. In the end, it was a little too forward, but we didn’t allow much. Seen over the games, he did a good job.”
Mislintat’s contract expires at the end of the season and he has been sporting director at Stuttgart since joining from Arsenal in 2019. Wimmer has overseen wins against Bochum, Arminia Bielefeld, Augsburg and Hertha Berlin, but Stuttgart still find themselves 16th in the table.
