Robin Gosens speak out after World Cup omission

Robin Gosens has opened up about his feelings after not making Hansi Flick’s final 26 for the World Cup in Qatar. The 28-year-old had been included in previous international squads and was even a stater at the European Championship last year.

Speaking to RP Online, Gosens spoke on how he was feeling after he was left out: “I’ve been feeling better before. Of course, I understand the motivations of Hansi Flick. Nevertheless, I hoped to participate. I was so close. A lifelong dream has burst for me that already hurts.” The left back will of course still be supporting Germany when they are in Qatar: “I know the boys and am friends with many. Of course I will keep my fingers crossed.”

Instead of Gosens, Flick opted for David Raum and Christian Günter as Germany’s left back options in Qatar. Both have been in slightly better club form as Gosens has struggled to stake his claim as Inter Milan’s first choice left wing back. The 28-year-old has only started one game for Inter in the league this season and has came off the bench in the other 10.

By the time the next World Cup comes around, Gosens will be 32 so his hopes will not be completely lost. He can now focus on trying to make the national team for the 2024 Euros which will be held in Germany.
