Everton would land the ideal attacking signing in Chelsea striker Armando Broja, believes journalist Paul Brown.
Why are Everton looking at more firepower?
Everton’s escape from relegation last season has allowed Frank Lampard time to shape the Toffees into his own team, and he’s started that by shoring up the defence. Bringing in James Tarkowski and Conor Coady has made Everton one of the hardest backlines to break down, and only the top three have conceded more goals than Lampard’s side this season.
However, it’s at the other end where Everton have struggled. They’ve scored just 11 goals this season, with only Wolves finding the back of the net on fewer occasions.
Star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin didn’t start a game until October, scoring only one goal so far this season and was forced off with another setback in last weekend’s defeat to Leicester. While summer signing Neal Maupay has only contributed one goal since his arrival from Brighton.
It’s Everton’s lack of goals that currently sees them just two points off the drop in the Premier League table.
What does Brown think of a possible Broja signing?
One name that has been linked previously to solve Everton’s goal-scoring issues is Armando Broja, who Paul Brown thinks would be the perfect signing for the club.
Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Broja would be a brilliant signing for Everton. Depending how you play, you could play him in more than one kind of role. I also think if they’re willing to pay the money for him, he’s actually someone who could play with either of the current strikers.
“He would quite comfortably sit next to Maupay, and he would quite comfortably sit playing off Calvert-Lewin, because he suits both of their styles of play. I think Broja could come in and be the the aggressor in a team with Maupay flitting around him and picking up scraps and the two of them linking up. And I think he could do the opposite job if Calvert Lewin was playing. I think he could be the one flitting around, picking up good positions, making runs and feeding off Calvert-Lewin and helping him really in front of goal.”
Is Broja a realistic target for Everton?
Armando Broja, described as “lightning-quick” by journalist Ben Jacobs, was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer, with a wrath of clubs interested in the 6 ft 3 Albanian forward.
Sky Sports reported in July that along with Everton, Newcastle and West Ham had the striker in their sights following his successful loan spell at Southampton last season.
The 21-year-old netted nine times for the Saints across 2021-22, and he impressed with his eye for goal and his aerial ability. Stats also showed he excelled at regaining possession and running with the ball at his feet.
However, Broja chose to remain in West London and fight for his place rather then move on from Chelsea, and has been rewarded with 17 appearances for Graham Potter’s men. He netted his first goal for the club in the 3-0 win over Wolves in October.
That extended game time would suggest that Broja is unlikely to leave Stamford Bridge in January, especially for a club that could be fighting another relegation battle. Although some reports suggest a move could be on the cards next summer, with AC Milan also looking at the Albanian international as an option.
