£87m target ‘would raise level of Klopp’s squad’ at Anfield

Liverpool could get involved in a ‘fascinating tussle’ for Jude Bellingham and the Borussia Dortmund star would ‘raise the level’ of the current Anfield squad, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Having made Darwin Nunez the Reds’ club-record signing when he arrived in a £85million deal from Benfica in the summer, boss Jurgen Klopp could splash the cash again in January and at the end of the campaign.

What’s the latest news involving Bellingham?

According to Spanish sources, via FourFourTwo, Bellingham could be bought for £87million despite initial claims that Dortmund would not be willing to do business for less than £130million.

The report suggests Liverpool are long-term admirers of the central midfielder and Fenway Sports Group, who put the club up for sale earlier this week, want to beat Real Madrid to his signature as a parting gift.

It appears the Merseyside giants have also received a major boost in their pursuit of the 17-cap England international, who is set to head to the upcoming World Cup.

That is because it has emerged that Bellingham is not interested in joining Chelsea despite the west Londoners’ co-owner Todd Boehly holding talks with his father and agent.

Although Manchester United and Manchester City are also in the running for the 19-year-old’s signature, it is understood that Liverpool are very optimistic of sealing a deal in 2023 after he has been identified as Klopp’s top target.

What has Dean Jones said about Bellingham?

Jones believes Liverpool’s current crop of players would benefit from Bellingham making the move to Anfield.

The journalist is looking forward to seeing whether Klopp and Fenway Sports Group will test Dortmund’s resolve in the coming months.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “You can see why they would want Bellingham, you can see how he would influence that team right now and what he would bring to them that they’ve been lacking this season. He would probably raise the level of the people around him too.

“It would be a fascinating tussle if Liverpool genuinely do get involved in this.”

Would Bellingham be a good signing for Liverpool?

Bellingham has been in outstanding form this season and there is no doubt that he should be one of the first names on the team-sheet when England head to Qatar for the World Cup.

The teenager has already moved into double figures for goal contributions since the campaign got underway and he has been particularly menacing in the Champions League.

Bellingham averaged a goal every 113 minutes in the group stage and also made his mark in the defensive end of the pitch by completing two interceptions, 1.6 tackles and 0.8 clearances per game.

With Liverpool sitting in eighth – 15 points adrift of Premier League table-toppers Arsenal – it is clear that Klopp’s squad needs a shake-up and Bellingham would be an astute addition.
