Manchester United target Antonio Silva is a ‘big player in terms of potential’ amid speculation surrounding his future, according to journalist Dean Jones.
The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks after putting in several impressive performances for boyhood club Benfica this season.
What is the latest news involving Silva?
Portuguese outlet O Jogo (via CaughtOffside) have claimed that both United and bitter rivals Liverpool are eager to prise Silva away from the Estádio da Luz.
And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano then addressed the rumours, stating that ‘top clubs are following’ the highly-rated centre-back, although there is nothing ‘concrete’ at this moment in time.
“He’s a top player for the future, of course he needs some time to improve his skills, but Benfica are convinced he will be worth €80-90m (£68m-77m) in the future,” wrote Romano.

“I’ve seen some reports of Liverpool and Manchester United looking at him. For sure, top clubs are following him but it’s important to say that there’s still nothing serious or concrete, as of now.”
Only time will tell if the Red Devils do make a move for Silva, but he certainly appears to be on the radar of several leading clubs across the continent.
What has Jones said about Silva?
When asked by GiveMeSport if Silva could be being lined up as Harry Maguire’s heir, Jones stated that is ‘probably a bit much’ to expect him to do that at this stage of his career.

In an interview with GMS, he said: “Maybe long-term. I mean, he’s a big player in terms of potential, but he’s 19.
“And it’s probably a bit much to expect him to step into the United team and take over the spot that was held by the club captain.”
How good is Silva?
Silva has made 14 appearances for Benfica this season, scoring one goal, which came in the 4-3 victory over Juventus in the Champions League.
As per WhoScored, the 6 foot 2 ace has also won 2.4 aerial duels while averaging 2.3 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 2.9 clearances, and 0.4 blocks per league game, placing him in the top three for each metric amongst his teammates.
The Portugal Under-21 international has gone from strength to strength under manager Roger Schmidt, and the attention he is receiving has come as little surprise.
Silva perhaps needs more time at Benfica to develop, but the likes of United will surely continue to monitor his progress closely.
