In a recent report, talkSPORT mentioned that Chelsea are leading the race for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele. It is understood that the Blues are the favourities to land the French speedster this summer.
Dembele’s Impressive Season In Spanish Football
Dembele has enjoyed an impressive campaign at Catalonia as he has put in a series of fruitful performances on the right side of Barca’s attack. The 25-year-old has been a decent playmaker for the Catalan outfit over the past ten months after he scored twice and secured 13 assists in 32 matches for Xavi’s men in various competitions.
The France international has proven his worth as a productive presence in the final third based on his average of 2.2 shots, 2.1 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even taken care of the ball well when interchanging possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 84.4% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Boss Thomas Tuchel Snap Dembele Up This Summer?
Dembele has got the pace to cause all kinds of problems for his marker out on the wide areas. He has transformed himself into a brilliant playmaker in the final third but needs to be more consistent in terms of his goal-scoring numbers. Dembele has played on the right-wing a lot recently but is also versatile enough to fill in as a left-winger if needed.
The French talent has had his fair share of injury problems during his Barca career, so he would be a risky addition to Thomas Tuchel‘s squad this summer. Still, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting him which makes him a worthy target for Chelsea to pursue this month.
At 25, Dembele’s best years are ahead of him and is well-equipped to make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge if the Blues manage to acquire his services during the summer transfer period. He would offer some healthy competition for Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount for a regular starting spot in Chelsea’s first XI. All in all, Tuchel would be wise to snap Dembele up when the transfer window commences later this summer.
