In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Newcastle United are set to rival Bayern Munich for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen. It has been revealed that the Magpies are trying their best to lure the Nigerian striker to St. James’ Park this summer.

Osimhen’s Decent Goal-Scoring Record At Naples This Season

The 23-year-old had a decent season at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium and did well to lead the charge effectively for his team. Osimhen has found the back of the net 18 times and secured six assists in 32 appearances for the Italian outfit during the 2021-22 campaign across multiple competitions.

The Lagos-born marksman deserves a lot of praise for averaging 3.4 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he has been a bit untidy with his ball distribution after making 70.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Get Osimhen On Board?

Osimhen has got the pace to make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the final third and can get himself into some great positions inside the opposition penalty area.

The 18-time Nigeria international can use his strong 1.86m frame to win a few aerial duels and has established himself as a decent finisher up top. He can even contribute by securing his fair share of assists in the attacking end of the field and has got a good work rate as well.

Osimhen will bring more goals and pace to Newcastle‘s frontline ahead of the new campaign. He is good enough to make the centre-forward position his own at the Tyneside club next season. Thus, the Magpies boss Eddie Howe should think about getting Osimhen on board during the summer transfer period. He would serve as a major upgrade over Chris Wood and Allan Saint-Maximum at St. James’ Park.

We can expect Osimhen to form a fruitful attacking partnership with Callum Wilson if Newcastle can find a way to bring him to Tyneside when the transfer window commences later this month. The Nigerian sensation could even help the Magpies push for a top-four finish in the Premier League in the coming seasons.
