While Bayern are looking to move to the top of the table, Mainz have the chance to record a fourth straight victory.
Bayern are still yet to lose at home this season, and in their last three home games in all competitions, they have scored at 14 goals. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have also been resolute in defence at the Allianz Arena, keeping four consecutive home clean sheets.
In their most recent encounter, Mainz cruised to a commanding 5-0 victory over 10-man FC Köln. Marcus Ingvarsten opened the scoring from the spot before Köln’s Luca Kilian was given his marching orders in the 28th minute for his second bookable offence. Dominik Kohr and Anton Stach added to Mainz’s tally before half time, and the comfortable win was rounded off thanks to second half strikes from Aarón Martín and Karim Onisiwo.
As a result of their win over Köln, Bo Svensson’s side currently sit in sixth place – two points adrift of the top four.
Die Nullfünfer can also draw inspiration from the fact that they have won two of their last three Bundesliga games against Bayern, although both of those victories took place on home turf.
