Vieira eyeing ‘very exciting’ £12m striker at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace are ‘keeping an eye on’ Antoine Semenyo ahead of potentially looking to strike a deal which would see the Bristol City star head to Selhurst Park, according to The Guardian journalist Ed Aarons.

The Eagles may have spent more than £30million during the summer transfer window, but boss Patrick Vieira will be handed another opportunity to strengthen his squad in January.

What’s the latest news involving Semenyo?

According to Football League World, Palace are considering a double raid on Bristol City for Semenyo and Tommy Conway.

The report suggests Vieira, who is into his second season at the Selhurst Park helm after being appointed as the club’s manager last year, could rekindle his interest in Semenyo having held talks with his current employers during the summer.

It is understood that Bristol City slapped a £12million price tag on the striker as they looked to keep him at Ashton Gate beyond the September 1 deadline.

Semenyo will enter the final six months of his contract at the turn of the year, although the Championship side have an option to extend the agreement for another season.

The 22-year-old is hoping to bag a place in the Ghana squad which will head to Qatar for the World Cup next month, having taken his tally up to three caps during the last international break.

What has Ed Aarons said about Semenyo?

Aarons believes Semenyo has a bright future ahead of him and is aware that Palace have been keeping tabs on his situation.

However, the journalist has doubts over whether the frontman will be on the flight from Ghana to Qatar in a matter of weeks.

Aarons told GIVEMESPORT: “Semenyo is an interesting one. He was born in London but has got Ghanaian heritage and he has decide to play for them.

“He is a very exciting forward and I know they have definitely had a look at him in the past. I think it’s one where they’re just keeping an eye on him.

“It’s going to be a fight for him to get in the Ghana team. They’ve got quite a few options up front now.”

Would Semenyo be a good signing for Crystal Palace?

Having allowed Christian Benteke to join Major League Soccer franchise DC United in August, Palace will be on the lookout for reinforcements in the attacking third of the pitch.

Semenyo could be the perfect solution as he has found the back of the net four times since the campaign got underway and claimed an additional assist.

The south Londoners have also had success when dipping into the Championship in the past, with Selhurst Park favourites Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise arriving from Queens Park Rangers and Reading respectively.

Statistics show that Semenyo has averaged 1.9 shots per game in the second tier this season, while he also gets his name on the scoresheet every 211 minutes, so he could prove to be a shrewd investment.
