After Köln’s Europa Conference League match was abandoned on Thursday because of fog, the Hoffenheim game on Sunday was brought into question. The Billy Goats defeated Slovacko 1-0 in the rescheduled match on Friday and in 48 hours their attention will turn to league play.
Although both Hoffenheim trainer Andre Breitenreiter and Köln coach Steffen Baumgart tried to get the Sunday match postponed due to the quick turnaround, their efforts fell short.
Baumgart commented: “Many people have tried very hard to find a good solution for the Hoffenheim game. I thank you for that. In the end, there was no good solution. We have to play on Sunday. We have to deal with that now.”
He added that, “We’ll see if it will be a disadvantage that we play again on Sunday when the game is over.”
